Market-entry, establishment of a company (selected projects)

Strategy development

  • Supporting a midsized Swabian engineering company developing its China strategy and deciding whether and how the Chinese market should be entered and which location for production and service should be chosen in order to ensure a future- and client-oriented focus. In doing so, we especially respected the new entrepreneurial chances resulting from China’s revised taxation and corporate law.
  • Concept and strategy definition for a proper market access in China on behalf of a renowned component supplier of petrochemical raw materials and end products for automotive and furniture industries. A strategy workshop for the preferred market entry was followed by market research and the development of a marketing concept as well as by the search for a sales-oriented chief-representative on site.
  • Strategy workshop on the organizational setup and the possibilities for local and global sourcing activities in China.
  • Second Opinion on the optimized company strategy and the organizational setup, under special consideration of strategic, finance, legal and taxation issues. The mechanical and chemical based European company had already several investments in China.
  • Preparation and follow-up of the M&A transaction of take-over of a local competitor in the electronic sector, including strategy finding, target screening and execution of a commercial pre-due diligence.

Establishment of a company

  • Supporting a renowned mid-sized company producing electrical appliances and power tools. Developing an exit strategy for an existing joint venture company in trouble and establishing a new 100% entity with focus on production, global sourcing and service, marketing and sales. Besides necessary analyses such as market and competition investigations, SWOT-, benchmark-, location-, feasibility- and due diligence analyses, we worked out plans for strategic re-orientation and a business plan for the next 5 years in close co-operation with the client. Furthermore, we developed detailed concepts for controlling, human resources, sales and after sales service. We further supported contract negotiations for establishing the new company in Shanghai as well as fixing favored conditions of the lease contract.
  • Coaching of a mid-sized Austrian automotive sub-supplier in establishing a new subsidiary in China. The special focus was an in-depth location analysis and support in all relevant aspects of the founding of the company including the required contracts, production planning, construction issues, environmental approval report and required operational safety instructions. Further, we supported the structuring of all relevant issues for a successful operation of the new entity.
  • Every year CMN executes several company establishments as turnkey project as well as on a selective project support basis.

Personal

  • Search of a General Manager, Deputy General Manager and of team leaders for a venture with over 800 employees in Northern China.
  • CMN supported a mid-sized machinery building company in the search for an expatriate general manager and a Chinese sales manager as well as the creation of a performance-oriented bonus system.
  • Conception of a tailored personnel development plan with special consideration of training and retention measures for high performers (incl. definition of training contents, selection of training providers, consideration of China-specific teaching methods etc.)
  • Search and coaching of a sales-oriented chief-representative for a German mid-sized company.
  • Extensive management assessment covering 110 executive managers of the targeted joint venture partner, an automotive supplier in South China.
  • Search and development of the whole management staff of a new industrial company in north China, inclusive the consulting on the design of the employee and employment handbooks as well as on the labor contracts and the trainings handbook.

Market Research, marketing and sales

  • Execution of a profound market research as basis for the formulation of a market entry strategy as well as for the definition of a suitable marketing and sales concept for an European industrial company.
  • Product program, pricing analyses and competitive benchmarking for a German company, producing machinery and technical equipment.

Controlling and reporting-concept

  • Establishment of an effective controlling- and reporting system respecting China-specific criteria as well as specific requirements of the German headquarters.
